Schuth Funeral - Five Years Overdue

LaCrosse, Wi.- On September 15th, 2005, Edith Schuth's funeral was held in the county cemetery. She died of natural causes on August 15, 2000, five years and one month earlier. Edith's son, Phillip Schuth, was living with her at the time and placed his deceased mother in their basement freezer so authorities would not suspect him of murder, and he could continue collecting her social security checks.
Five years later, Edith was discovered after Schuth engaged in a fourteen-hour stand-off with LaCrosse police after slapping a neighbor boy and shooting at his parents. Schuth will be on trial next month for first-degree intentional homicide, and was released from prison for 75 minutes to attend his mother's funeral.
