UMass-Boston gets $12.5M to reform science education

A $12.5 million grant was awarded to the University of Massachusetts Boston by the National Science Foundation. UMass - Boston was chosen to lean the Boston Science Partnership, "a five year science education reform program that will provide teacher training and course development." It will create "inquiry-based" science classes with new, groundbreaking curriculum. The Boston Science Partnership also includes Northeastern University, Harvard Medical School, The College Board, and the Education Development Center. The program was engineered around the fact that, nationally, two-thirds to three-fourths of all science teachers did not receive a major or a minor in science.
