Latino Voters Missunderstood
Latinos are U.S.'s largest minority and many do not understand their voting habits. Most believe that they are social conservatives and only care about immigration policies. However, this year a survey has shown that they are voting for other issues such as health care, the war in Iraq, and their one most important issue in which they would vote on would be the economy. Bush and Kerry have been ignoring states with large populations of Latinos, however they have been paying close attention to New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin and Colorado. Bush, who is originally from Texas and knows how to speak a little bit of Spanish, has earned more Latino votes from his days of governor. Kerry also stirred into the Latino interest a bit when he was considering New Mexico's Latino Governor Bill Richardson for Vice President, but then Richardson withdrew from the running. A columnist from the Washington Post says that both parties are paying too much attention to immigration and Cuba when defending their stances on issues. It seems now that Latinos are not so much interested in if the candidate can speak their language, but rather the issues they are addressing.
