Katrina Cleanup in Mississippi - What Will Happen to All The Garbage

There could be as much as 50 million cubic yards of debris such as trees, brush, lumber, household items, rusted metal, and hazardous materials to be disposed of during the cleanup from hurricane Katrina's distruction in Mississippi. Hundreds of acres of "reduction sites" and landfills will be needed. At the "reduction sites" the garbage is sorted into hazardous materials, materials that will be burned and materials that will be ground and left in the landfills. Certain environmental rules will be waived during this cleanup. The process of removing the waste could take up to 3 months. The burning and grinding of the sorted materials could take years.
