Senate Minority Leader Selected
Nevada Senator, Harry Reid, was elected today as the minority leader in the Senate. Illinois Senator Richard J. Durbin was selected as the minority whip. Both were elected to their positions without opposition. Reid hopes to create good working conditions with President Bush and other Republicans in Washington. After the election in November, Democrats were left with less power in the Senate as their numbers decreased to 45 compared to the Republican number of 55 Senators. Reid, who has been a Senator since 1986, is confident that although the Republicans outnumber the Democrats that they will still be able to hold their ground.
