Wal-Mart shuts down another competitor

Toys "R" Us announced that it was considering exiting the toy business because of overwhelming competition from Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart, last year's #1 retailer with sales of $259 billion, already dominates food, jewelry, home furnishing, and apparel sales. Next year promises to be even bigger and better: Wal-Mart plans to open 310 new stores and 30 new Sam's Clubs. Stores such as Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Toys "R" Us, each of which sell a specific catergory of products, are threatened by the variety of goods Wal-Mart offers and the success it has been experiencing in recent years. Retail analysts think that Wal-Mart will continue to boom.
I, however, think that Wal-Mart won't monopolize all business. There will always be some people who prefer shopping at smaller stores for a less intimidating atmosphere, ease in finding things, and more attentive customer service. (I can say this because I work at BB&B!)
