Presidents of Colleges See Another Increase In Pay

Seventeen presidents of public universities will earn over $500,000 this year, while students of four-year public universities see a 10.5% increase in tuition. The top earner is Mark Emmert, president of the University of Washington, who was offered a package of $762,000. David Ward, president of the American Council of Eduaction, stated that this increase in salary is due to the new staff the universities recruit, rather than the current staff demanding a raise in pay. In addition, Jim Boyle, president of the College Parents of America, claims that this increase should not be a concern because we are searching for a "strong leader" who can hold down the increase in tuition. http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/11/15/college.presidents.ap/index.html
