Castro Rids Cuba of U.S. Dollar
The president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, will end circulation of the U.S. dollar in Cuba as of November 8th. Castro, who wants to rid his country of the currency of his "arch enemy," says that it won't be illegal to possess an American dollar, it just can't be used as currency. U.S. dollars can be exchanged for convertible pesos with a 10 percent commision price. U.S. credit cards are not valid in Cuba. Castro decided to make this move in responce to tighter U.S. sanctions against Cuba, including limited travel and money spending in the country.
